Understanding ourselves through art

Session time: 60 mins

Discover paintings by famous artists like Hans Holbein and Thomas Gainsborough. Explore themes of identity and difference how artists represent physical and emotional worlds through portraiture. Use dressing up to engage with and learn about how paintings tell stories of the people in them.

In this hands-on practical workshop pupils will use their creativity to develop drawing skills to make an art piece they can take home.

In this workshop your pupils will:

• Learn to identify features in a face

• Use discussion, observation and sketching in order to learn

• Gain experience in simple drawing techniques for faces

• Explore collage techniques for creating textures including hair and clothes

Landscape Around Us

Discovering natural and urban landscapes and who lives in them

Session time: 60 mins

Discover paintings and objects by famous artists. Explore themes of landscape in the natural and urban world to investigate topics such as climate change and biodiversity and how we affect and change our environment over time.

In this hands-on practical workshop pupils will use their creativity to develop drawing skills to make an art piece they can take home.

In this workshop your pupils will:

• Use a range of materials creatively to either

• Natural environment: design a habitat for their chosen animal

• Urban environment: design a house for the city

• Using drawing to develop ideas, experiences and imagination

• Develop techniques with colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space

• Learn about the work of artists and designers, differences and similarities and then making links to their own work.
