Neurodiverse visitors

If you are having difficulty with anything in the Gallery, please speak to a member of staff or a volunteer, who will be able to help you and your family find a quieter space. The staff and volunteers are here to enable you to have as smooth a visit as possible. Call on 01225 477233 or email us ahead of time if you have any questions.

Visitors with dementia

We welcome people with dementia. We offer free entry to Bath and North East Somerset residents who are Discovery Card holders. Free entry is also available for an accompanying carer. Call on 01225 477233 or email us to check for quieter times for your visit.

Visitors with hearing impairments

We welcome visitors who use British Sign Language and any assistance dogs.

All exhibition information is available in written form. Some exhibitions have audioguides, if they are used then there will be a transcript available for use.

Visitors with potential claustrophobia

The Victoria Art Gallery has two main large galleries. There may be times where a lot of visitors are there at the same time, but both galleries will have open areas to navigate to.

Lower Gallery

There are temporary exhibitions with differing configurations. If you are concerned then please contact us to check.

Upper Gallery

The Upper Gallery is currently closed for renovations and repair of the roof. Due to reopen 2024.

On the first floor there are the permanent collection displays, with views from front to back. A small display area with decorative arts leads to the lift and accessible toilet. There is a risk of claustrophobia as the only way out is the lift or turning back to the Upper Rotunda. You can, if you wish, omit this part of the visit by navigating to the stairs instead.

Call on 01225 477233 or email us to check for quieter times for your visit.

Visitors with visual impairments

Some displays in the Upper and Lower Galleries may have reduced lighting due to light sensitive artworks.

All temporary exhibitions in the Lower Gallery have text panels and labels that are available in a large print handbook, these are a minimum of 16pt. These are kept by the volunteer in the Lower Gallery. Requests can be made at the ticket desk or with the volunteer in the Lower Gallery.

Art on Mondays

We have a schedule of free talks developed specifically for visitors with visual impairments called Art on Mondays. Talks take place on selected Mondays from 10am-11.30am. There is no need to book.

During exhibition changeovers there may be limited access into the lower gallery. Please contact us in advance on 01225 477233 if you are planning to visit during this time. To find out when our exhibitions take place, please visit our events calendar.
