Visitor Charter
Welcome to the Victoria Art Gallery!
We are delighted to share our collection of paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts with you.
Our mission is to celebrate creativity, spark curiosity, and connect people with art from across the ages. We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and inspiring environment where everyone feels they belong.
To help us care for the artworks and ensure an enjoyable visit for all, please follow these principles during your time with us.
Respecting the collection:
The artworks and displays are unique and often delicate.
- Please do not touch the artworks, frames, or display cases.
- Follow any signage or guidance from staff and volunteers, who are there to help you enjoy the collection safely and respectfully.
Photography and Filming:
Photography for personal use is welcome unless signage indicates otherwise for specific artworks or exhibitions.
- Please avoid using flash, tripods, or lighting equipment, as these can disturb others and may damage sensitive works.
- Do not photograph or film staff and volunteers unless they have agreed it is OK to do so.
- For commercial photography or filming, please seek advance permission.
Respect for our team
Our staff and volunteers work hard to support your visit. Please treat them with respect and patience at all times.
If our staff feel that you are not behaving in a respectful manner, they may ask you to leave the gallery.
Respect for all:
We want everyone to feel welcome here. Discriminatory or inappropriate behaviour towards staff, volunteers, or other visitors will not be tolerated.
Please be mindful of noise levels, mobile phone use, and movement through the galleries so everyone can enjoy the artworks.
Share the Space:
Some galleries may have limited capacity, especially during popular exhibitions.
Please follow queueing systems where in place, and be aware of how your actions (such as large bags or extended photography) may affect others.
Accessibility and Inclusivity
We aim to make the Victoria Art Gallery accessible for all.
Our staff receive training to welcome diverse visitors, and we offer a range of resources to support an enjoyable visit.
If you need assistance at any point, please let a member of our team know.
Stay Safe
Gallery floors may be uneven in places. Take care as you move between spaces and watch out for steps or changes in floor levels.
Please do not lean on display cases or barriers.
Keep Children Close
Children are warmly welcomed, but must be supervised at all times to protect both their safety and the artworks.
Emergency Response
If an emergency occurs, please follow instructions from staff and volunteers immediately.
First-aid assistance is available on-site if needed.
By following this charter, you help protect the artworks, support our team, and contribute to a positive experience for all who visit.
We hope you have an inspiring and enjoyable time at the Victoria Art Gallery.
