Recent Acquisitions - Small exhibition in the Upper Gallery
3 February – 26 April 2026
Last year marked the 125th anniversary of the Victoria Art Gallery, a milestone that reflects the Gallery’s long-standing role as a place where art is collected, cared for and shared with the public. Since opening its doors in 1900, the Gallery has grown through the extraordinary generosity of donors who believed their artworks should be enjoyed by everyone. In the Gallery’s first decade alone, 500 works were acquired, of which only two were purchased.
This display celebrates the most recent additions to the collection, all of them generously donated. These paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture reflect the tastes and passions of the individuals who once owned them. As we look back on 125 years, these new donations remind us that the Gallery’s greatest strength lies in its supporters, the people who have contributed towards a public resource for everyone to enjoy.
