With hands-on workshops, free drop-in activities, and inspiring exhibitions, there’s something for every curious young mind. Whether you're a budding artist or simply looking for a cool indoor escape, we’ve got you covered.

Brand New! Mini Makers Workshops

Let your creativity bloom – and take home your very own masterpiece!

This summer, we’re launching Mini Makers – fun, expert-led sessions for young artists who love to make, paint and play. Perfect for budding artists up to age 11, these workshops offer the chance to create your own take-home art in our brand-new Modelling Room. 

Sessions run on selected dates from 23 July to 21 August and cost £5 per making participant - booking is recommended.

Mini Makers: Butterfly Ink Blot Books - 29 - 31 July

Make a butterfly bracelet using paper and colouring in this activity perfect for budding young artists.

Mini Makers: Bird on a wire - 5 - 7 August

Make a funky origami bird to hang from your natural twig mobile.

Mini Makers: Picture Poetry - 12 - 14 August

Take a special animal shape and make poetry with words from nature and make a decoration for display.

Mini Makers: Leafy Designers - 19 - 21 August

Use leaves and natural materials to make a unique animal design inspired by the Lost Spells exhibition for your home.

Step into the Wild with The Lost Spells

Running 18 July – 5 October, our summer exhibition The Lost Spells: Listening to a Landscape of Voices brings the magic of nature to life through the stunning illustrations of Jackie Morris and poems by Robert Macfarlane.

Based on the much-loved book The Lost Spells, this enchanting show invites families to slow down, look closer, and explore the natural world through beautiful, immersive artwork.

Explore More Upstairs – Upper Gallery & Art Explorers Area

Don’t forget to visit our Upper Gallery, newly reopened and free to all! This beautiful space houses highlights from our permanent collection – from Georgian portraits to bold contemporary pieces. 

Families can also enjoy the Art Explorers area – a relaxed space designed to encourage discovery and play in a relaxed gallery setting. Children can sit, draw, read and interact with art-themed resources
