Five reasons to donate and bring Toulouse-Lautrec’s world to life at the Gallery

Next February, the Gallery want to bring the sounds, sights and delights of Toulouse-Lautrec’s thrilling Bohemian Paris life to modern day Bath.

2 August 2019

We want to display over 80 stunning and iconic colour posters by Toulouse-Lautrec, Mucha, Steinlen and more. We need to raise £12,000 to make this happen and we have raised 30% of the target so far.

There are 5 reasons to give to our Art Happens campaign:

Make this one-off UK show spectacular

The Victoria Art Gallery will be the only place in the UK where you can see these iconic and bold posters together. They will be displayed from floor to ceiling, to replicate how they were displayed originally on the streets of Paris at the turn of the century. You may have a print of one of these timeless images in your home; this is your chance to experience the real thing.

A vibrant events programme

We want to programme immersive evening events unique to this exhibition which will echo the joie de vivre of the Belle Époque and Toulouse-Lautrec's Paris. These will feature music and entertainment to celebrate how visual art, music and dance were intertwined in this thrilling era.

Get everyone involved

With your help there will be workshops for community groups including dance activities for people with dementia, printing workshops for young people with special education needs, and an opportunity for Bath carer's to help curate an element of the exhibition.

Receive something brilliant

As a thank you, we offer limited-edition rewards inspired by the Bohemian era. There is something for everyone, including an exclusive tote bag inspired by the venues at the heart of the Bohemian era. There is also a postcard pack featuring eight posters by some of the artists in the exhibition - Steinlen, Ibels, Grasset, Mucha, and Toulouse-Lautrec. You can also choose some special experiences: private tours, late night events, invitations to the private view and a decadent Champagne afternoon tea.

Do something different

We want to transport people to this era and give everyone the chance to participate, which normally we cannot afford to do. We want to make a multilingual audio guide which includes music from the era and a BSL option as well as show film about lithography and the era. We want to display personalia from the performers and provide a dressing up area so people can get a feel of what it was like to be a performer or artist in the Moulin Rouge. We will offer two exhibition trails for people to explore the language and imagery in the posters.

Visit the Art Fund website to donate by 22 August. Every single donation will help people step into Toulouse-Lautrec's Parisian world.

Thank you.
