Choose a reward and explore the connections between Bohemian Paris and Bath

You can choose from a ‘fantastique’ range of limited-edition rewards designed especially for our Art Happens Toulouse-Lautrec campaign. Rewards range from £5 to £995– there is something for everyone.

9 August 2019

Visit the campaign Art Fund website to choose your reward. You and a friend will be able to explore this thrilling era in more depth if you opt for one of our two rewards that include a private 'behind-the-scenes' tour.

For £450, the exhibition's curator will guide you through the exhibition. You will also get the chance to visit our 'watercolour store'. There you will delve into some of the printmaking highlights from our diverse collection, such as the coloured soft ground etching by Franz Simon above, and works by Thomas Barker.

In the early 19th-century, Bath was home to one of the first lithographic printing presses outside London thanks to Thomas Barker. More recently Henry Cliffe, one of the best modern practitioners of lithography, headed up the printmaking department at Bath Academy of Art from 1950-81.

Toulouse-Lautrec’s Parisian posters are not only great works of popular art; they also shine a light on the world of popular entertainment in Montmartre - Paris’s most happening nightspot in the years leading up to the fin de siècle. Parallels can be found with Bath’s heyday as a centre of entertainment (some of it hedonistic) a hundred years earlier, as captured for example by Thomas Rowlandson in his Comforts of Bath cartoons.

If you choose the £65 reward, you and a friend can get a taste of the Belle Époque at our Louche Late Night with Lautrec event at our Gallery - a spectacular evening of entertainment and music set amongst these iconic works.

So far we’ve raised 34% of the £12,000 target. Every single donation will help people to step back in time and experience Toulouse-Lautrec’s Parisian world.

Donate on the Art Fund website and choose a brilliant reward today.

Thank you to everyone who has already given and helped us.
