Jean Rose (1929-2022)
Jean Melville Rose sadly passed away in April 2022, aged 92, at her home in Wells. A local artist and good friend of the Victoria Art Gallery, Jean was still working into her nineties, completing a painting a week.

The painterly energy of the artist Jean Rose has been channelled into this charming exhibition full of the delights of a life well lived. As a student at Bath Academy of Art at Corsham Court she rubbed shoulders with Kenneth Armitage and William Scott.

Inspired by the intimate interiors of Vuillard, she developed her warm painterly patterns in park scenes and floral subjects that revealed the clarity and focus she saw in the world around her.

During lockdown she turned to Sydney Gardens for inspiration. This selling exhibition gives visitors a glimpse of the relationships she sustained with her family, home and outdoor spaces.
