COVID-19

We are looking forward to welcoming you back to the Victoria Art Gallery. Our first priority is the safety and wellbeing of our visitors and staff, and we are aware of the continuing need to do everything we can to keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, we have decided to maintain social distancing and other mitigation measures until further notice.

  • Pre-booking and timeslots: In order to visit the Victoria Art Gallery you must pre-book your tickets and 15-minute entry timeslots; you will not be able to visit the permanent or temporary exhibitions without a ticket. This includes Annual Pass holders and those who would normally have free access such as Friends of the Victoria Art Gallery and residents. Depending on availability, you can pre-book your ticket on the day if there are still slots available.
  • One-way routes and social distancing:  We have reduced the number of people we can welcome to the Gallery at any one time and have introduced a new one-way system. Please follow the one-way system and keep your distance from other visitors.
  • Face coverings: Face coverings are required throughout your visit to the Gallery, unless you have a special exemption. In line with government guidance, children under the age of 11 do not have to wear a face covering.
  • Toilets: Access to our toilets will be available only to visitors who have booked tickets to one of our temporary exhibitions. If you wish to use the toilet during your visit, please speak to a member of our team who will open them for you.
  • Access to the Upper Gallery: We will do our best to ensure that the permanent exhibition in the Upper Gallery remains open to all visitors who have booked tickets; however, please note that this cannot be guaranteed as access to the Upper Gallery depends on the availability of our wonderful volunteers.
  • Additional cleaning: We will be increasing our cleaning regimes in the toilets and throughout the Gallery. While we will be thoroughly sanitising our Audioguide units between uses, we recommend that you bring your own headphones to use. Hand sanitiser will be available at key points around the site.
  • Test and Trace: We encourage all visitors to check-in using the NHS COVID-19 app but we will not be collecting details of those who do not use the app. QR codes are available at the entrance for visitors to scan in using their phones. The app can be downloaded here from the Google Play or App Store.

You can help us keep everyone safe and ensure the Gallery remains open for everyone to enjoy by:

  • Being on time for your visit: Please be on time, as for safety reasons we may not be able to admit visitors who are late for their timeslot. If there are later time slots available on the date of your visit, you can rebook your tickets by calling 01225 477785.
  • Keeping your distance from other visitors
  • Staying within your group: Please be aware that in line with current government guidelines, visitors will need to move around the Gallery in groups of six or less.
