Local artists invited to showcase their work at Bath
Society of Artists 105th exhibition

Local artists are invited to take part in the
Bath Society of Artists 105th exhibition being held at the Bath
& North East Somerset Council run Victoria Art Gallery, 15 May
– 18 June 2010.
The exhibition of more than 350 works, will
include paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures contributed by
members of the Society together with invited Bath artist, Jackie
Harding. There is also a section that is open for any artist who is
not a member to enter.
Jon Benington, Manager of the Bath & North
East Somerset Council run Victoria Art Gallery, said: “The Bath
Society of Artists’ annual exhibition is our most popular fixture.
Last year’s show was seen by over fourteen thousand visitors in
five weeks.
“Bath & North East Somerset Council is
proud to stage the exhibition which celebrated its centenary five
years ago. Each year the Society seems to go from strength to
strength. A number of prizes are up for grabs including two new
Judges’ Prizes of £500 each, the Bristol Guild Prize of £200 for a
3-D work and the Harry Walker Young Artist Prize of £250, awarded
to artists aged 18-25.
“Visitors can prepare to be dazzled by the
talent and sheer diversity of the works that will be on display,
all of which are for sale.”
During the exhibition members of the public
will be invited to vote for their favourite piece of work, with the
winner of the People’s Choice Award receiving £500.`
To enter, entrants must be over 18, pay a
small entry fee and submit their work by the 8 May. All work must
be the artists own original unaided work. They may be paintings,
sculpture, drawings, prints or mixed media, but not photography or
Giclee reproductions.
A series of free talks by local experts will
accompany the exhibition. All talks take place from 2.30pm-3.15pm.
The first, by Bob Ballard, is on Saturday, May 29 and looks at the
painter’s approach. The second talk will take place on Saturday,
June 5 on the printmaker’s approach with Peter Davies. The
sculptor’s approach will be the subject of the third talk on
Saturday, June 12 by Guy Thomas.

Notes to editors
- The show opens on Saturday, May 15 and runs until Saturday,
June 19. The Victoria Art Gallery, near Pulteney Bridge in Bath, is
open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm, Sunday 1.30pm to 5pm. The
Gallery is closed on Monday. Admission is free.
- The opening of the exhibition will take place on Friday, May 14
at 6.00pm and the prizes will be announced at 6.30pm.
