The Victoria Art Gallery in Bath welcomed 117,500 visitors
through its doors in 2008. This is an all time record for the
Council-run Gallery next to Pulteney Bridge, which has been open to
the public for 108 years.
Jon Benington, Manager of the Victoria Art Gallery, said: “Bath
& North East Somerset Council is delighted that the current
Peter Lanyon and other recent exhibitions have been so well
attended. It has been a real pleasure to see support for the
Gallery grow by 65 per cent over the last decade, with the majority
of this increase coming from within the local community. The
Gallery is already the museum most visited by Bath & North East
Somerset residents.”
"To reach 117,500 means that the Gallery is now the second most
visited museum in the local area, after the Roman Baths. This is a
great tribute to the Gallery team and to all the unsalaried
volunteers and Friends of the Gallery who have so selflessly helped
to take the Gallery forward.“
"2008 has been a truly amazing year, but looking ahead to 2009 we
have an exciting programme featuring work by such notables as John
Eaves, Sophie Ryder and Kurt Jackson, all brought to our visitors
for free. The In Colour: John Eaves exhibition which opens on the
10th of January is promising to bring a blast of colour and energy
in the New Year in contrast to these gloomy times. “
