Kaffe Fassett, with his miniature tapestry chair
on display

Carole Waller, with her paintings on silk
mounted between glass.
19 January - 30 March 2008
What's your cup of tea? If it is patterned in blue and white
then this is the show for you: hundreds of pieces of blue and white
china make a mosaic of English life, from Willow pattern to rustic
scenes.
The inspiration behind the exhibition is a collection of over
2,000 pottery pieces belonging to the Cornish family of Hickman,
and many of these exquisite items form the centrepiece of the show,
displayed on a vast specially designed Georgian style
dresser.
Three major contemporary artists - Kaffe Fassett (textiles,
paintings, furniture), Candace Bahouth (mosaic-covered shoes and
furniture), and Carole Waller (paintings on silk and glass) have
been invited to show how their work is inspired by this most
English of traditions. The show promises to be a riot of colour,
and the whole building, upstairs and down, will be transformed.
Carole Waller's clothes are to be found in the costume
collection at the V&A and in galleries and shops around the
world. She has designed clothes especially for sale in the
shop at the Victoria Art Gallery to co-incide with this
exhibition.
All new work is for sale and there will be workshops and gallery
talks by the artists.
