Richard Burel: Bath Markets and
Festivals

Richard Burel was born
in Rouen, France in 1974 and has been living at
Bradford-on-Avon near Bath since 2000. The pictures in this
exhibition were inspired by visiting festivals and markets in and
around Bath.
Completely self-taught, Burel has developed
his own highly personal style of painting. He recreates Georgian
streetscapes using a dazzling combination of collage and
paint. The mixed media approach
enables him to capture the different colours, tones and textures of
the local scene.
At the same time his French temperament seems
to come to the fore, in the shape of humorous observations and
simple narratives. The figures and details he includes in his
pictures are ones that have either amused him or fired his
imagination.
