Landscape
The English Matisse: Landscapes by
Matthew Smith
In association with Crane Kalman Gallery,
London
26 June – 5 September
2010
The first ever show devoted to the sumptuous
Cornish and Provencal landscapes of Matthew Smith (1879-1959), one
of the greatest of British colourists. And yet, for all the
intensity of his painting style, he led a very reclusive existence.
Smith’s passionate vision is brought to the fore with the aid of
some of his most dazzling paintings, borrowed from Tate and other
leading public and private collections. A catalogue accompanies the
show.
