Atkinson (1911-2004) studied at the Royal
College of Art in London under such luminaries as Edward Bawden and
Eric Ravilious. In 1942 he was one of the first artists to record
the devastation of the Bath Blitz. After the war he worked mainly
as a book illustrator, whilst making studies of his family,
sailors and film stars.
