Bath & North East Somerset Council Schools Art Show

10 October - 1 November 2009

After two highly successful art shows at Chapel Row in the past two autumns, Victoria Art Gallery and Chew Valley School have agreed on a show for this autumn in the Victoria Art Gallery, open to the public for three weeks from Saturday 10 October 2009 to Sunday 1 November 2009.

We are hoping for a big response from every secondary and special school with 15 – 18 year olds in B&NES. This means that there will be no charge to schools this year to cover the cost of the gallery hire, the publicity and drinks for the private view.

The show

This is intended to showcase the best of what our schools are producing for public examination so can be from any pupils currently in Y10 – Y13. The exhibition will be curated by students at Chew Valley School, under the guidance of Suzi Bloxham. Work will be exhibited in the same format as in previous years i.e. framed / mounted suitably for a professional, world class gallery. Canvases need not be framed.

Work will be hung professionally by Victoria Art Gallery (mirror plated to walls) in mixed groups i.e not in separate school areas. The side gallery will be something like a Curator’s Choice – not necessarily the very best nor are there any winners as such, but it will be a special selection of some of the most interesting work. This should avoid any feeling by young artists that there is any hierarchy of work between the two ground floor galleries.

We are actively encouraging a very wide range of media which can include textiles, fine art, ceramics, photography, graphic design and 3D work, for example. You may wish to consult with colleagues in other departments, therefore.
