1813-1882

Thomas Jones Barker was Thomas Barker’s eldest son. All of Thomas’s sons earned their living from painting, but unlike the rest of his family, Thomas Jones did not stay in Bath. He trained in France, and carved out a successful career working first in Paris, and then in London. He became internationally famous for his historical painting and battle scenes. He was so popular in France that he was commissioned to paint pictures by the Emperor Louis Philippe several times.

The Gallery’s most famous painting by Thomas Jones Barker is The Bride of Death.
